Churchill and Democracy
Trump and Authoritarianism

I have written about my wandering right-brain. Steve Jobs explained what my wandering right-brain does for me.

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.

Steve Jobs

Jobs is absolutely correct; I was wandering through the Internet totally unrelated to Winston Churchill and found a quote by him. Winnie said, “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” Talk about the truth and a creative monument.

Winnie

I have written loads of essays about Donald the Dumb. He is a racist, stupid, narcissus, blowhard, and obnoxious. However, the vast majority of writers and commentators have done the same thing. It isn’t difficult to write 1,000-words about a truly despicable human being.

To be absolutely clear, I don’t diss Trump for his political beliefs. I’d be hard pressed to delineate what they are other than if it makes money or provides power for him, he’ll back that issue. This essay also isn’t about agreeing politically with everyone who has some political notion. In reality, you can’t find two people in our country to agree completely with someone else about any political or social issues. Every conservative around other conservatives will see things differently from another like-minded conservative.

From my liberal perspective, Elizabeth Warren and I don’t agree on every jot and tittle either. All of us can live with those types of disagreements. We will debate about some aspect of nearly everything even when discussing an issue with people with whom we generally agree. We all can live with the reality that all people won’t wind up on the same page, in the same paragraph, and in the same sentence. That’s a given. It is just the way things are in the world.

What haunts me are Donald the Dumb supporters. I am truly wrestling with addressing their support. Now, some of his supporters are intellectually illiterate. Nonetheless, why do the vast majority of his supporters’ pledge allegiance to him in spite of blatantly stupid, racist, and xenophobic rants? In addition, he lies today about what he said yesterday, and who knows what will roll off his lips tomorrow. Trump is the Liar in Chief.

Surely, his supporters grasp that reality that Donald the Dumb lies. Additionally, why do they support his racist comments about Mexicans, Muslims, and blacks. Granted, some of his supporters are of like-mind. I am not writing to them. I am writing to those that must see problems with Donald the Dumb’s arrogance and dissing entire groups of human beings.

Enter Churchill’s one-liner, “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” What Winnie forgot was an alternative to democracy. We do live in a democracy, which means that we need to address our failings. You can see it in what Donald the Dumb says. In addition, it is repeated in his facial and body movements.

Donald the Dumb

Have you seen that before?

Mussolini is Donald the Dumbs mentor.

We need to think about people we call our leaders. We can’t merely follow them blindly. If you are a supporter of Donald the Dumb, would you allow your wife or you daughter alone with Trump? However, you follow this person and trust him as our fake president.

Donald the Dumb reminds us, “All of the women on 'The Apprentice' flirted with me — consciously or unconsciously. That's to be expected. A sexual dynamic is always present between people, unless you are asexual.” Really? Well, it is an example of his delusions of grandeur and an extremely sexist comment.
