Stupid is as Stupid Does
Let’s Get Real

Nearly everyone in America would have watched and learned from the movie Forrest Gump. Whether you went to see it at a theater or watched it on Netflix, you would have grasped Gump’s insight about life, “Stupid is as stupid does.” It isn’t about saying something is important but about doing it. Gump’s activities in his life demonstrate that truth.

This essay addresses stupidity in America, especially at the state and federal levels. There are an estimated 436.4 million guns in America. Look at these statistics; there are 120 guns per 100 residents in America.

Some Americans seem obsessed with gun ownership, especially regarding the AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle. This type of rifle isn’t used for deer or quail hunting. The military uses this variety. It is the gun of choice if one is planning mass homicides. It can fire 45 rounds per minute, but with a bump stock, it can fire 400 per minute.

The bullet of this type of rifle enters the human body creating a small hole, but it explodes inside it the body. When it exits the body, it leaves it, creating a large cavity. This is called cavitation. Whether a bullet enters the head or torso, it will remove a large area of the body when it exits the person.

Many gun lovers claim that the Second Amendment gives them the right to have any firearm. This is the actual statement of the amendment. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

These are some of the photos of mass murderers in America. They don’t seem like “a well regulated Militia.” Since they have psych and mental health issues, they aren’t providing “the security of a free State.” Therefore, they shouldn’t have “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms....”

The statistics about mass shootings are increasing. They are averaging close to two per day in America.

Now, some gun rights people’s response to these killings is to pray for the victims’ families. And what does praying do for the families grieving due to gun violence? Does prayer bring back the victim or stop future shootings? A more effective means to stop mass shootings is to take assault weapons from those, not in the military.

Gov. Abbott of Texas has more killings from guns in his state based on the number of people who live in Texas than any other state. Why has Abbott been in a wheelchair for much of his adult life? A tree fell on him during a storm. Praying for him won’t result in his walking again. He could walk today if he had thought twice about jogging during a storm. This is Abbott praying at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

“I’m praying.”

Praying for peace in the Middle East won’t work any more than praying for the victims and their families in Cleveland or Allen, Texas, last week. Here are some statistics about Texas and guns.

America needs someone with an alternative to more guns. Listen to Sen. Raphael Warnock’s speech in the Senate about gun control.
