What Hath God Wrought
Either/Or

It was 178 years ago, yesterday, May 24, 1844, that Samuel Morse tapped out a message between Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD:

While this message began connecting Americans and to the world, it was based upon an Old Testament statement about the belief that God created the world and all its majesty.

What Hath God Wrought

Today, many people still use that phrase but see it as an example of how negative God’s creation has become. Men tell women about their reproductive rights. We pollute the planet. The rich get richer while the poor get poorer. We allow assault weapons, like AR-15, to be purchased for what reason? To go deer hunting?

No, the person who assassinated ten people in Buffalo, NY, with an AR-15 did so because they weren’t white. That racist massacre occurred on Saturday, May 14.

Ten days later, a gunman shot to death nineteen children and two teachers inside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

America is obsessed with guns.

We have twice the number of guns per one hundred persons than Yemen or Serbia. We are a world leader with more guns than people. The following statistic is even more telling.

While America has problems with mass killings, Texas is the most killing state. In Texas, you can’t drink alcohol until 21 but can buy an AR-15 at 18.

In Uvalde, Texas, the killer had 1,657 rounds of ammunition on him when he entered the Robb Elementary School. An hour later, nineteen children and two teachers were killed with these two weapons.

What Hath God Wrought is the question.
