Go Fund Me
Being Remembered

Bobby Kennedy has been the single most important mentor for all of my adult life. He spoke at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. This quote is from what is called his Ripple of Hope.

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

Bobby wrote his speech to address the issue of apartheid. His speech was given six decades ago on June 6, 1966. Look out upon our world today. I don’t see much improvement, and I am not going to be remembered for changing the world. Nevertheless, I can assist my family in Myanmar. Myanmar is a developing country that has had a handful of coups since its independence from Britain after WWII.

I discovered my family a dozen years ago while playing Scrabble with Ti Ti, my granddaughter, and the rest of my family.

Ti Ti and Me

When I returned to visit my family several years later, Ko Ko built a home for his family. However, on my third visit, I wanted to see the home they were renting when we first met. Ko Ko built an addition to their home.

On my third trip, we went on our family tour together. Can you imagine the fun we had touring places that Westerners rarely visited? One place was a small village called Set Set Yo.

I spent time flipping preschool children. Watch the end of this video when I flipped a very young child. She remained standing, wanting me to flip her again.

The small child doesn’t remember me. I’d love to have a photo of her today; she would be in her early teens. However, deep in the recesses of her mind, she has stored our encounter.

However, the remaining several hours at Set Set Yo were spent carrying around what I called the little one. The little one wasn’t a year old. I asked Moh Moh who to say the little one in Burmese. It is A Ngal Lay. Look at the inquisitive look on her face, attempting to process who I am. She will never remember her great-grandfather.

A Ngal Lay and Me

All that I can do is to wire transfer funds to my family, and a portion goes to A Ngal Lay’s family. She has an older sister and her parents. However, her father can’t find a job in the village and works in Malaysia.

I have an excellent painter and friend of mine who lives in Myanmar. I had Than paint an oil painting of the photo of A Ngal Lay and me. The link is to an article that I wrote about the painting. In that essay is another quote from Bobby Kennedy. “Every generation inherits a world it never made; and, as it does so, it automatically becomes the trustee of that world for those who come after. In due course, each generation makes its own accounting to its children.”

By contributing to We Are Family in Myanmar, Inc., you can assist my family of nine. I would appreciate the gift to assist my family. However, write to my family. They will remember your caring.

An additional item. This is a video of A Ngal Lay reading from her school book.
