Here or Abroad
George Santayana warned us: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Case in point. Trump has some issues with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which funds NPR and PBS. So, to save $1.1 billion from being wasted at NPR and PBS, the federal government will no longer help fund them after May 2025.
Then, Trump claims that NPR and PBS, which were biased against his MAGA beliefs, have “closed up.”
Less than a year later, Trump orders Operation Epic Fury against Iran. It killed the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Defense Council Secretary, Major General Mohammad Pakpou, IRGC Commander, and Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Armed Forces Chief of Staff, on February 28. The operation destroyed much of the army, navy, and air force in a short matter of time.
Trump wanted to act now to avoid an "imminent threat." Trump’s war would be a brief four-week excursion. What we are doing in Iran isn’t a war; it is merely a “little excursion.” It would be like invading Venezuela. US forces invaded Venezuela and captured Maduro in two and a half hours on January 3, 2026.
Regardless of Trump’s dream of an in-and-out excursion, he finds himself in a massive quagmire called the Strait of Hormuz. It is the chokepoint between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It is a 21-nautical-mile-wide channel, which oil and gas tankers must enter to reach the gas and oil distribution docks. Then, they must exit through the Strait to bring oil and gas to 20% of the world. Prior to Trump’s war, 130 ships entered and exited the Strait monthly.
So, why have oil and gas prices skyrocketed? There are two major reasons. If a ship doesn’t get permission to exit the Strait, Iran can attack the ship with drones and rockets. The other means are the mine fields.
The war costs to America range between half a billion and about $1 billion daily in the war in Iran. Talk about asymmetrical costs. It costs Iran $20k for a drone, and a US missile costs between $1-4 million. Now, Trump is planning to send 10,000 ground troops to Iran, while gas and oil prices have risen, along with fertilizer.
Trump criticized PBS for its bias against him. As a result, Thump stopped the government from wasting $1 billion annually. However, Trump wastes $1 billion every day and a half in Iran, his war in the past month. Additionally, the end of the war isn’t in sight with ground troops on the way to Iran.
Gas prices, in Crown Point, where I live, were $2.86 and today are $4.10. However, gas prices are merely the tip of the economic iceberg. Diesel and natural gas prices have increased. Fertilizer costs more today. It is a byproduct of natural gas. The lack of fertilizer will increase the cost of food. If I were a betting person, I wouldn’t bet that the war will end anytime in the near future. Even if it did, it would take months to get the ships sitting there now through the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump decided not to invade Greenland or force Canada as the 51st. The next country that is concerned about Cuba. Our real estate magnet, Trump, would love to invest in beachfront condos after seizing Cuba. He would run both Venezuela and Cuba. Can you imagine the chaos that he will create? He has renamed the Gulf of Mexico. Since he has won the Iran war, Trump will have the honor of renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Trump.
This video is an excellent presentation about the three types of mines that are in the Strait.
