Then and Now
How’s that for a dull title of an essay? While the title is boring, the story behind the title isn’t. Winston Churchill was said to be the first person to write, “History is written by victors.” Again, this historical attribution is less important than the story behind who wrote it. It is often true that history is written by the dominant group.
Here is an obvious example. World War II was won by the US due to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Hiroshima was bombed on August 6, 1945, with the first atomic bomb called Little Boy, and Nagasaki was bombed on August 7, with the second bomb called Fat Man.
Nonetheless, the two atomic bombs didn’t end the war. The USSR declared war on Japan by invading Japanese-held Manchuria along with other territories on August 9. The Japanese high command was not going to capitulate to the Allies or the Soviets. Initially, Hirohito didn’t want to yield his divine right to rule Japan to anyone.
So, what did cause the Japanese to surrender? By mid-August, Hirohito recognized that, like it or not, he had no choice. He had decided to surrender to the Allies. This part of the history of surrendering is still murky. The government was divided regarding surrender. Hirohito and some of his ministers seemed to think that surrender was the only option. They had, in principle, agreed to the Potsdam Declaration prior to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
On the night of August 14 and 15, it was clear that Hirohito had decided to surrender and recorded a statement to the Japanese people. However, some of the junior military leadership staged a palace coup, called the Kyūjō incident. They put the emperor under house arrest and were looking for his speech. All was going well. Nonetheless, as they were looking for the recording in the palace, the military noticed more than 1,000 American bombers that night, headed to various cities in Japan. When some seemed to be headed toward Tokyo, it foiled the palace coup since all the lights in Tokyo had been turned off. Without any light, it was like looking for a needle in the palace darkness.
The fear of the US dropping the third atomic bomb on Tokyo or being carpet bombed with conventional ordinances in total darkness was enough for Hirohito and his generals to defeat the palace coup. The next day, Hirohito's recorded message was broadcast.
Thus endeth my boring backstory. That history lesson seems passé in comparison to today. Trump is attempting to either write or rewrite history. He is into white nationalism. White nationalism is both racist and sexist. According to that mindset, whites are better than other racial groups, especially when there are males. Women are seen more as objects.
In less than two decades, non-Hispanic whites will become a minority in the US. It will be a collection of whites, Hispanics, blacks, and Asians. An example of this is that Trump is in the process of purging racism from the Smithsonian exhibits about America.
Trump claims that the election he lost to Biden was rigged, even after all appeals, recounts, and court decisions denied any fraud. Trump had the Smithsonian rewrite his history as a president. The Smithsonian has photos of all the American presidents with a short synopsis of their presidency. This is the text that was to be under Trump’s portrait. "Impeached twice, on charges of abuse of power and incitement of insurrection after supporters attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, he was acquitted by the Senate in both trials. Obviously, Trump wanted to have that rewritten. It now says merely the dates of his presidency.
Trump is the Great Ender of Wars, while being the Great Conqueror. He claims he ended nearly a dozen wars, while threatening to invade Greenland and Canada. Still, he started two wars, one in Venezuela and Iraq. Who is next? Cuba. Haiti.
However, the one issue that plagues Trump the most is the Epstein files. He initially claimed that there was nothing there. He calls Epstein a “creep.” However, The New York Times found 38,000 places where Trump and/or his family are mentioned. The Times found 5,300 documents related to flight logs, which include items like flight logs, etc.
SNL raised the haunting issue about Trump and Epstein. It is more than merely funny; it is the obvious truth, which Trump is editing.
This is an AI-generated Hirohito’s speech to the nation in the aftermath of the failed coup.
