Obama Signing the Affordable Care Act

In Washington, members of the House and Senate are in a heated debate about our country's economic future, the budget, and healthcare reform. I understand and accept the debate; this is the way a democracy functions. What I do not get nor do I accept is to attempt to stop the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by threatening a shutdown of our country. Those issues are not related. Congress needs to address the budget and the debt. The Senate and House passed the Affordable Care Act. President Obama signed it into law on March 23, 2010. The Supreme Court upheld the law on June 28, 2012. It is the law of the nation.

However, the Tea Party members of Congress, whose slogan is "Don't tread on me," do not like healthcare reform. Therefore, they are treading on the Constitution by attempting to force Washington to rescind healthcare reform that is the law of the nation - for over two years. If the Senate and the president do not rescind it, the Tea Party will stop the government from functioning.

Nonetheless, stopping the government from functioning, because one group, in one party, in one branch of government does not like healthcare reform is not an example of a democracy. It is tyrannical though. We are on the verge of running into a financial abyss because of the few. That is not democracy.
